Mind, Body, and Happiness

Mind, Body, and Happiness
By Richard H Gregory

Common sense tells you that you're happy if your mind and body are happy. And common sense is right, because there's solid reasoning behind it. Neither can be healthy without the other because each has needs and desires that can be satisfied only with the help of the other. A positive attitude is key to that cooperation and to health. It's sort of like that old joke to the effect that if Momma's happy, everyone is happy.

The Momma (sorry dudes, that's the way the joke goes) in this case is the partnership between your mind and body. Obviously, they're closely intertwined. Less obviously, one can't exist without the other because each has needs and desires that can be satisfied only with the help of the other. What's that mean? Only that your health and your happiness depends on their degree of cooperation. The evidence is overwhelming if you look at the possibilities.

What happens when they don't cooperate?

Well, what happens when your body has an allergy? Anything from itching to anaphylactic shock. Right? Wouldn't you say that affects the mind? How about the flu? Do you feel tired? Can you think clearly? Your body's problems are messing with your mind.

What happens when your mind has a problem? Do you get depressed and overeat or drink too much? What does that do to your body? What sort of mental and physical stress do you think this generates?

On the other hand, what happens when they cooperate?

Your mind doesn't force destructive activities on your body and your body doesn't burden your mind with avoidable illnesses, preventable alarms, and crisis alerts. Instead, they look out for one another, they have a positive attitude. Your body makes sure your mind is well fed and that waste is efficiently removed. Your mind returns the favor by keeping an eye out for situations that could damage your body and by overseeing general operations. This cooperation and benign environment frees up mental resources that help you advance towards whatever goals you've set for yourself.

There's a third case where the mind and body cooperate, but one or the other has limited capacity. Even then, happiness is possible. It's likely to be more difficult and may require some adjustments, but it's possible. The evidence is in folks whose options are limited in some respect yet who lead satisfying, and in some cases spectacular, lives (Stephan Hawking is one example).

Obviously cooperation, even under trying conditions, leads to better results. Which would you choose? Granted, wild behavior that pits mind against body sounds like more fun, if you don't mind paying the price later on. But is it? Where's the fun in poor health, the outrageous expenses that usually go with the wild behavior, and the family problems you bring on yourself?

Think about it.

How to Improve Your Life by Being More Patient

How to Improve Your Life by Being More Patient

By Gary T

You can improve your life as well as the lives of the people around you by mastering the art of patience. Not only that, but you'll also become a calmer and more peaceful person yourself. However, you might find that you're patient in some areas, and lacking in others. That is to be expected but no matter where you stand, you can always further develop the skill of patience. Here are useful insights..

Remember That Everyone Is Different

Are you accepting of yourself and others? It's quite difficult to avoid comparing yourself to others, and when you do compare, you might be setting yourself up for disappointment. For example, if you're attempting to learn a new skill, it might take you longer to become an expert and that's okay. If you have the patience to see it through to the end, you'll eventually get there.

There are also certain things that people don't have any control over, and as fate may have it, you may have to display quite a bit more patience than someone else in the same situation. If you accept the situation you've been given, you'll certainly have an easier time of it!

Help Others With Their Skills

Do you find yourself in situations where you become easily frustrated with others? Perhaps they haven't done as good a job as you think you could do.

Rather than letting those negative emotions fester inside you, take action to fix the situation instead. Lend a helping hand in order to help them develop their skill. Teach others instead of resorting to anger and frustration!

Helping others benefits everyone involved in the long run, and all it takes is the patience to help others with the little tasks.

Act Rather Than React

When a lack of patience starts to bring out you frustrations, there's probably something you can do besides just thinking about the situation. If you keep yourself busy, there won't be any time to let the frustration show.

Just tell yourself that you don't have the option of waiting. You can either take action to fix the situation, or occupy your time with something more beneficial to you. Instead of waiting, maybe there's something else you can do that's enjoyable. You can even just take joy in experiencing the present moment and relax.

Count To Ten

Sometimes you may feel like you're at the end of your rope and fear that you may react inappropriately because of a lack of patience. In this case you can practice the "count to ten" rule. Tell yourself that no matter what, you can't react immediately to a situation. Take a deep breath and slowly count to ten. These brief moments may be all it takes to get you to act calmly and rationally.

See Things From Another Point Of View

You can also get into the habit of seeing things from another point of view. When all else has failed, put yourself into another person's shoes and broaden your horizons. Understand that everyone is not like you; they don't have the same thoughts, opinions, or abilities. Seeing the same situation through the eyes of others may be enough to bring you wisdom and patience.

Incorporate these techniques into your daily life and, rather than facing the frustration of impatience, you'll feel the joy that more patience and understanding brings!

Self Confidence Hypnosis Techniques to Boost Your Self Esteem

By John Osgood Platinum Quality Author

Did you know that one's self-esteem can be improved by using hypnotherapy? As a matter of fact, issues about self-esteem are one of the main reasons why people consult a hypnotherapist.

Self-esteem is defined as the way you value yourself. If you love and accept your own self, then you have a healthy self-esteem. This means that you can mingle with other people easily, be responsible for your own life, take care of your body, not be discouraged by other people's behavior and believe that you do not need to compete with other people to get what you want.

In general, people are born into the world with good self-esteem. You can observe that a baby conveys his true feelings without any hesitations, and as time goes by, this child will grow into an adult with healthy self-respect if he is given unconditional love and appropriate discipline.

On the other hand, a lot of people have been subject to criticism from their parents or even teachers. These people may have been called names and had labels attached to them that damaged their self-esteem slowly over time. They tend to believe the negative but untrue feedback from other people which results in a sub-standard life full of much worry and stress.

Through past life regression hypnotherapy, you can go back to the past and discover unresolved issues that have affected your current self-esteem. This process will also allow you to review the root of the problem so that you can let go of undesirable sentiments that reside in your body. It is almost like laying a ghost to rest that has been haunting you for years.

Hypnotherapists use different approaches to support you during your treatment. With the Inner Child Technique, you will have visualizations and meet the child inside of you and hear his fears and concerns as well as learn how to cater to his needs.

Hypnotherapy treatment will also produce post-hypnotic recommendations to eliminate the negative things that you have been practicing in your life. You may also need to learn self-hypnosis to maintain the positive thoughts that you need.

Your hypnotherapist will also come up with a plan that suits your needs and considers what you want. You should in time see a drastic positive change in your attitude towards yourself, and move on and live the rest of your life the way you should.

Women Have Unique Retirement Planning Needs

By Andrew Brake

Translating retirement dreams into reality can be challenging-especially for women, who often must overcome unique, gender-specific hurdles to achieve financial security.

These challenges include lower average earnings, child custody and support, elder care and longer life expectancies than men. This series of articles explores these special gender-based issues to help women become better informed about retirement and financial planning.

As more women have entered the workforce and their pay moves toward parity with men, women now have more opportunities to save and invest for retirement. But simply increasing women's financial power will not necessarily result in a higher quality of personal retirement planning, greater participation in retirement plans, a higher rate of savings or smarter investing.

The facts tell the story:

Women live longer-Statistically, women outlive men by an average of about five years. This suggests they will have to save more because they'll have more years of retirement to fund.
Women save less-The women's median contribution rate is 6% vs. 8% for men, according to the Ninth Annual Transamerica Small Business Retirement Survey (September 2008), although the savings rate for both men and women falls short of the minimum recommended 10%. Only 10% of the women surveyed reported household retirement savings totaling over $100,000, compared to 29% of men.
Women start saving later-Women postpone retirement saving later in life than men, so they have fewer years to accumulate a retirement nest egg.
Women have less to invest-Generally, women have less to invest since, on average, they earn less than men.

The poverty rate for all elderly women is 13% according to the U.S. Census Bureau in 2008. However, the University of Michigan Retirement Research Center (May 2003) found that for widows, divorced and never-married women, the rate jumps to over 18%. Too many rely on Social Security as their sole source of income.

Next, you'll learn more about the pay differential between men and women-one of the major financial challenges facing women as they plan for the future.

Women save less because they earn less

Despite significant achievements in the workplace, many women are still at a disadvantage when it comes to earning power. No matter what measure is used, women's earnings generally remain below those received by men.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the median earnings of full-time male workers was $43,460 in 2007. By the same measure, the median income for women was $33,437. But the gap between women's and men's earnings closed slightly. In 2007, the female-to-male earnings ratio was 0.78-higher than the previous all-time-high of 0.76, first recorded in 2001.

Various factors contribute to these earnings differences:

• Women's careers are interrupted more often for childbirth, childcare or elderly parent care.
• Even women who gain entry into high-paying jobs can be subject to these demands on time and attention.
• Smaller companies with smaller payrolls typically employ more women than men.
• Fewer women than men are union members.
• More women than men choose not to work outside the home.

For these reasons, it can be especially important for women to become informed about retirement and financial planning programs-and to participate in employer-sponsored retirement plans.

Next, we will discuss the competitive demands that many working women face-and often face alone: the care of children and elderly parents.

The challenges of providing child and elder care

Women's traditional role as caregivers for both children and elderly family members often impose special financial hardships and make it even more difficult to set aside money for the future.

This is especially true for women who are custodial parents, dependent on child support payments that might or might not be forthcoming. According to the 2005 edition of Child Support for Custodial Mothers and Fathers, a U.S. Census Bureau report, an estimated 13.6 million parents had custody of children under 21 years of age. And five of every six custodial parents were women.

Custodial mothers are more likely than fathers to work part time and have the greatest need for child support. Yet, the Census Bureau study found that among the more than 11 million custodial mothers, only 2.9 million were receiving the full amount of their court-ordered child support payments. Clearly, the unsupplemented burden of child and household support falls more often to women with single incomes-a fact that can have a devastating effect on retirement-planning efforts.

Caring for the elderly

Nearly one in four of the nation's households is involved in caregiving to family members or friends aged 50 or older. And about 75% of those caregivers are women. (Source: 101 Facts on the Status of Workingwomen, published in 2005 by the Business and Professional Women's Foundation). The BPWF report also stated that 27% of all caregivers are daughters of those receiving the care, and that female caregivers spend 50% more time providing care than male caregivers.

Further, according to the BPWF, employed caregivers are more likely to miss work, lose a job or career opportunity or experience other negative economic effects.

And then there is the direct financial impact. Elderly people living on a fixed income can have more difficulty paying utility bills, medical deductibles, nursing home bills or home healthcare charges. When the elderly parent runs a little short, the caregiver might be required to make up the shortfall. Again, this can reduce the amount available to save for retirement.

What women can do to prepare for the future

Financial planning begins with becoming educated about key financial issues. That's not as difficult as it might sound, because it just takes some time to read up on finances in dozens of personal financial management books and magazines on the market.

These publications explain the pros and cons of investments such as mutual funds, variable annuities, certificates of deposit (CDs), money market funds and other investments; savings programs such as workplace retirement plans and Individual Retirement Accounts (IRAs); and the concept of risk management through life and long-term care insurance.

Next, acquire an understanding of cash management. This involves monitoring your checkbook, determining where your money goes every month, and finding ways to reduce these outflows if they exceed your income. Budgeting is the most basic, most effective way to sort out balance income and outgo, identify expenses that need to be reduced and provide a framework for managing your finances.

Now is the time to start using the five-step retirement-planning process:

• Set goals
• Analyze current financial position
• Develop strategies
• Choose specific investment options
• Evaluate and follow up on your plan

This process can help you determine how much money you'll need at retirement and make decisions about how to start accumulating that money. For more information about financial and retirement planning for women, contact financial advisor, Andrew Brake @ 336-833-3066 or andrew.brake@valic.com.

Position of Women in Today's Society

By Sohinee Das

Since times immemorial women have been oppressed by the patriarchal machinery. This steady decline in the status of women can be traced back to the post-Rigvedic period. IT is interesting to note that women were ascribed a relatively superior position in times earlier than that, they being allowed to pursue education to an extent and having a say in important decisions like the choice of a husband. this can perhaps be traced back to the system of 'swayamvara', an ancient Indian custom in which a woman was granted the privilege of choosing her groom from amongst many suitors.

With the passage of time however, certain changes came to be wrought upon society. Women came to be ascribed a much inferior status, reduced ti the position of the domestic servant and the machinery for procuring offspring. With the home gradually being demarcated as the domain of her activity, her trespassing of that boundary came to be looked upon as a serious offence. She gradually came to lose her right to education or even to harbour opinions on any serious issues. the oppression of patriarchy gradually led her to lose her identity a be reduced to a puppet who would dance to the tunes of her patriarchal lords.

In today's day however, there seems to be some improvement in this condition. One should note that this change is only apparent, and perhaps even more insidious than the relatively simpler trajectory on which patriarchy operated in earlier times. While today's woman is being allowed to acquire education and also permitted to venture out of doors in search of work, she is also expected to fulfill the roles of a subservient wife and the self-abnegating mother. There seems to have infiltrated in modern times, a doubly coercive system that makes its claims both on the woman`s income as well as on her selfhood.

Can You Cope in the Eye of a Storm?

By Chrissy Atley

Most of you know I have been on a HUGE self-discovery path over the last couple of years. As I have learned more about myself what makes me feel good, I have incorporated several activities into my day-to-day routine that help me feel grounded and at peace. These activities include: walking Roxy in nature, meditating, using affirmations and reading. These activities have helped me feel more relaxed and creative. I am more calm, and instead of reacting to life I create my own experiences and have learned to embrace life with open arms.

However, this is all wonderful, but what happens when something we perceive as being negative shows up in our lives? For those of you who have been going down the self-development path like me, you have probably realized that when faced with something overwhelming, we tend to revert back to our old coping mechanisms. For me, this looks like being defensive, taking things personally and snapping at the people closest to me. AND when this happens, the first things to go are all of the "activities" that make me feel better! So it gets worse from there and becomes a vicious circle...

I have found though, the more aware of this I am, the more quickly I can recognize what is going on and get back to into doing what makes me feel good. When I do what makes me feel good, I put myself back into that feeling grateful place and whatever seems to have been so bad, is suddenly no longer that bad at all. This takes practice, and the more and more you do it, the easier it will be to catch yourself.

If all of this "feel good" stuff is new to you, start including activities you love into your daily routine. It will be easier to keep up with them later on when you are feeling off if they have been a part of your routine for awhile.

What can you start incorporating into your daily routine right away? Keep in mind this is a work in progress and only you will know what activities will work and how many. Start with one this week and add in another in 2-4 weeks. If you are feeling more relaxed then you are on track.

If you find yourself feeling down & out for whatever reason, commit to sticking with one of these activities that makes you feel good. While you're doing that one activity, start to think about 5 things you are thankful for. You will notice your mood increase dramatically, and whatever you were worrying about suddenly won't seem like such a big deal anymore. I did this earlier this week while I was walking Roxy. I was thankful for small things like the nice weather, having such a nice park nearby where I can walk her off her leash, the healthy baby that's on it's way and even the latte I was going to treat myself to afterwards! AND guess what? I was no longer feeling sorry for myself and I'm back to enjoying each day as it comes :)

Feeling Like a Failure - 5 Ways to Feel More Successful Without Doing Anything Remarkable

By Susan Meindl
Platinum Quality Author

Consider the possibility that you are not actually a failure.
How much of your sense of failure is related to the standards against which you are judging yourself? It may be worth considering whether you are looking at yourself through an appropriate lens. You can become a success overnight if you are willing to use a different set of criteria!

(1) Choose non-materialistic standards for success. It is heartbreaking to see how many people judge themselves failures because they are not rich enough, famous enough or thin enough. Success and failure are not limited to three simple categories. Every domain of human experience, intellectual, physical, relational and spiritual contains opportunities for success. It is a mistake to define the categories of human success too narrowly. If you look, you will probably find that you excel in many important human areas of experience.

(2) Cultivate the valiant attempt. Accept failure as an honestly paid price in the name of learning, skill development and deeper understanding. Many important projects require several false starts, detours or successive approximations before they bear fruit.

(3) Cultivate the ability to be a good loser or a good sport. Being graceful in defeat is a much admired quality of character. Entertainingly, it means that one can even succeed at failing.

(4) Believe in your resilience. Hang on to your belief that you can recover from disappointments mistakes and failures. Change your perspective...Adopt a longer time frame ...Will this failure still feel important in a year? In ten years? Does it really affect the opinion of those people most emotionally important to you?

(5) Develop a sense of humor about yourself, your standards, your efforts and your eventual success and failure. Often fear of failure is entangled with a fear of being laughed at or ridiculed. Having a sense of humor about yourself lets you laugh with others and detoxifies the experience.

An Ultimate Irony

Many highly talented, creative and extremely capable people feel like failures unnecessarily. Sometimes the inappropriate and exaggerated standards against which they propose to judge themselves are so daunting that they find themselves unable even to start their projects.

Fear of failure often drives perfectionistic behavior.
Perfectionism is not the same as "desire for excellence." Perfectionism is actually a defensive attempt to ward off criticism or struggle. Too often perfectionists will not tackle genuinely challenging projects because they prefer to stay in areas of work where they can be almost absolutely certain to succeed. This means that they work well below what their true level would be if they would risk imperfect or unsuccessful experiences in the name of developing their potential.

Ironically these "successful" individuals may feel like failures despite nearly perfect track records... because on some level they know that they have never really tried. Even if everyone else is impressed, they know that they are always pulling their punches and offering less than their best.

Paradoxically therefore, it is even possible for success to be a personal failure from the perspective of what might have been possible if the individual had been more prepared to fail.

Seven Keys to Happiness

This article summarizes much of what I've learned thus far on my journey to self-discovery and positive growth. Along the way, through many of life's ups and downs, with the help of many awesome teachers and mentors, I now most often live in a state of happiness and contentment. I still have lots to learn but I wanted to share with you what I've found most helpful thus far. I truly believe that all people have the capacity to choose their mental attitude. Therefore, if happiness is what you desire, then you must choose it. Here are some helpful ideas to help you do just that.

1. Self-Worth

Self-worth-without it, happiness will always be just beyond your grasp. Self-worth is, of course, something that can be measured along a continuum. It isn't like you either have it or you don't. You can possess varying degrees and those degrees can themselves vary depending on the circumstances of your life.

Generally, the person who is happiest has a healthy amount of self-worth without an inflated view of their own self-importance. This is the fine line that must be walked between confidence and arrogance.

Confidence implies a certain sense of surety while recognizing that each of us is just a different cog in a very big wheel. No one person is any more important than anyone else. Those with high self-worth know their life's purpose. They are in tune with what their mission is and proceed to make it their life's work. They also recognize the value of everyone else with whom they share space.

Those who are arrogant recognize their own self-worth but then proceed to look down upon those they deem as unworthy. Then at the other end of the continuum, there are those who recognize the importance of others but don't believe they are worthy to breathe air.

A healthy balance of self-worth is the key.

2. Gratitude

The second key to happiness is gratitude. It is human nature to enumerate the things that are NOT the way we want them to be. We are programmed to notice when things are off, and not necessarily appreciate when all is as we want it. This makes maintaining an attitude of gratitude a challenge but nonetheless something we should strive for. I have mentioned before that Universal Law tells us that we attract those things we think about most often. When we are grateful for what we have, more is bestowed upon us.

I know someone who believes, "No good deed goes unpunished" and lives his life accordingly. Another person I know always says, "I have the worst luck. Nothing good ever happens to me." And you know what? They are right! The Universe delivers to them exactly what they expect. There are others who have similar bad luck but who persevere or find the lesson in the situation. These people find more happiness and contentment in return.

Another point about gratitude is to be thankful for what you have. I love the line in the song that says, "It's not having what you want; it's about wanting what you got!" There's nothing wrong with wanting to do better than you are as long as you are grateful along the way. Even when things are bad, there is always good to be found in it. Life is in perfect balance and order. Anything with a great deal of pain associated with it also has a tremendous positive side if we are of the mind to see it.

3. Positive Life Framing

The third key to happiness is positive life framing. There are three ways to view any piece of information-positively, negatively or neutrally. Viewing information as neutral is the best way to go through life. It allows us to accept everything as it comes and to stop resisting what actually is in any given moment. However, many of us have great difficulty with that one.

As an incremental step, it is helpful to find a way to reframe life's negative events into positive ones. Even in life's tragedies, there is a way to find something positive about the situation. Almost always, in hindsight, we can see the benefit. The real benefit comes when we are able to see the benefit as the tragedy unfolds, or at least stay open to the thought that there is a benefit even if you are unable to see it in that moment. Just as in physics where there can be no neutron without a proton, so it is with life where there can be no negative event without a corresponding positive one.

4. Internal Locus of Control

The fourth key to happiness is possessing an internal locus of control. People who have an internal locus of control believe that they are responsible for their own behavior and its results based on their own personal decisions and efforts. This is contrasted with those who have an external locus of control. These individuals believe that their behavior is determined by external circumstances such as other people, fate, luck or circumstances beyond their control.

Having an internal locus of control produces a "can do" attitude. An external locus of control generally results in a helpless attitude. Even though people with an internal locus of control still have situations that occur that are beyond their control, they will seek some action that can be taken by them to improve the situation. They do not spend time bemoaning the fact that something bad happened to them. They look for decisive action opportunities to turn things around.

In this way, a person is more in charge of their own destiny. They can reject the role of victim and take definitive action to create greater life satisfaction.

5. Lifelong Learning

The fifth key to happiness is to adopt an attitude of lifelong learning. Your goal each day should be to learn something new. As you encounter new people and situations, look for the wisdom that can be extracted from them. Particularly in areas where we believe we made a "mistake", seek to uncover the lesson. There is always a lesson to be learned.

When we believe we know all there is to know, that is when we are in dangerous territory. When we think we know all, then we stop learning from the people and situations in our path. When we stop looking for the lessons, we begin to blame things external to ourselves for the pain we experience instead of seeking to learn whatever we need to know for our life's journey.

6. Love

Love is the sixth key to happiness. I am not talking about having a significant other in your life who loves you. I'm talking about having love inside of you that is just bursting out of you to touch others. Unconditional love is a concept we all strive for-unfortunately, most of us are looking to receive it rather than give it. You are truly fortunate and blessed when you have the unconditional love of someone-whether it's your life partner, your mother, father, aunt, uncle, grandmother, grandfather, foster parent, friend or puppy!

Truly unconditional love is rare and a gift to be cherished. However, ask yourself the question, how many times have you extended unconditional love? Do you have unconditional love for your fellow human beings? This is the kind of love that will lead to happiness. It doesn't matter if that special someone doesn't love you back, it's what's in YOUR heart that matters. Are you someone who only loves as much as you feel you are being loved in returned? That certainly isn't unconditional! If you are seeking love in your life, then you must be loving in order to attract the love you seek. This will lead to the ultimate happiness-loving, expecting nothing in return. Try it.

7. Contribution

The last key to happiness is contribution. This is a combination of knowing and following one's life purpose. When people understand their divine purpose in this life and then go about fulfilling that purpose, they are making an awesome contribution to the good of mankind. Having meaningful work and leaving a legacy is an important key to happiness. When we do the work we were meant to do, we touch lives. It doesn't matter whether one's purpose is to clean the public restrooms or to find the cure for AIDS, following your divine purpose will bring about a strong life fulfillment that cannot be experienced any other way. Contribution is critical to happiness.

Implementing these seven keys to happiness in one's life is not an easy task. Personal coaching can be helpful as you are attempting to change some old, harmful habits into more productive, happiness-inducing ones. Jack Canfield says, "Of all the things successful people do to accelerate their trip down the path to success, participating in some kind of coaching program is at the top of the list. A coach will help you clarify your vision and goals, support you through your fears, keep you focused, confront your unconscious behaviors and old patterns, expect you to do your best, help you live by your values, show you how to earn more while working less, and keep you focused on your core genius." Why not give it a try?

Sekarang coba tulislah secepat mungkin tanpa berpikir panjang-panjang!
Bagian satu :
1. Tiga nama orang yang paling anda kagumi
2. Tiga nama orang yang ingin anda tiru, anda mempunyai ideal ingin menjadi seperti mereka
